5/23/2023 0 Comments Beyond the Occult by Colin WilsonThe completed book, dedicated to Graves, was published on October 4, 1971, by Hodder & Stoughton in the U.K. But the weighing of the evidence …has convinced me that the basic claims of ‘occultism’ are true." (40-41*) In a basic sense my attitude remains unchanged I still regard philosophy-the pursuit of reality through intuition aided by intellect-as being more relevant more important, than questions of the ‘occult’. It was not until two years ago, when I began the systematic research for this book, that I realised the remarkable consistency of the evidence for such matters as life after death, out-of-body experiences (astral projection), reincarnation. "Although I have always been curious about the ‘occult’ …it has never been one of my major interests, like philosophy, or science, or even music…. During the course of his research, he found his attitude to the subject changing: However, with a young family to support, Wilson needed the money and fortunately went ahead with the project. When he sought the advice of Robert Graves on whether he should write it, he was told very firmly that he should not. The Occult was Colin Wilson’s first commissioned book and he made no secret of the fact that, at first, it was not a subject that interested him greatly.

Love chatting with you in our #WO2016 Facebook group, but I'm even more thrilled to have you visit me at my cyber home. She lives with her husband and two daughters in the Land of Living Skies. Though she can be found obsessing over zombies and orcs from time to time, Melanie has focused her powers on her YA debut There Once Were Stars, and her YA urban fantasy Summoner Rising. Whether it’s uncovering the corruption of the future, or traveling to other worlds to save the universe, she jumps in with both hands on her keyboard. I'd like to introduce you to another #WO2016 (Waiting On 2016) fellow author! She's a passionate writer of other-wordly adventures, a little excitable, and a little quirky. It also gives YA authors the opportunity to share their signature with the world! Feel free to join me any Wednesday. YA in the Alleyway is my revised meme to give young adult literature the spotlight it deserves. 5/22/2023 0 Comments A dream called home reyna grandeFeeling abandoned in Iguala, Reyna was left in the care of relatives who were often cruel. Later, when Grande was five, her mother also left to join her husband in California. When Grande was barely a year old, her father crossed the border to “El Otro Lado” (The other side) to find a way to earn money to send back to his family in desperately impoverished Iguala, Guerrero. Her life story is a fascinating one, not only because of her willingness to be absolutely frank about her feelings and perceptions but for the impact the immigration experience has had on generations of families and the family structure. Reyna Grande shares her experiences as an undocumented immigrant from Mexico who, at age nine, accompanied by young siblings and a coyote, succeeded on her third attempt to cross the border near Tijuana. It is thanks to this movie that I still misuse the word “ amortize” and, in times of stress, can be unaccountably soothed by the phrase “Shipyards, the mercantile”. (I’m talking about the mid-1980s, when this represented an extraordinary range of options on top of Britain’s four terrestrial TV channels.) As a result, I watched Poppins probably 3,000 times I know it from the first spit-spot to the umbrella’s final squawk. One was The Snowman, the classic adaption of the Raymond Briggs cartoon, and the other was Mary Poppins. W hen I was growing up, I had access to two VHS videos. This new edition represents the most complete vision of Pessoa's genius. Narrated principally by an assistant bookkeeper named Bernardo Soares - an alias of sorts for Pessoa himself - The Book of Disquiet is 'the autobiobraphy of someone who never existed', a mosaic of dreams, of hope and despair a hymn to the streets and cafes of 1930s Lisbon, and an extraordinary record of the inner life of one of the century's most important writers. It is presented here, for the first time in English, by order of original composition, and accompanied by facsimiles of the original manuscript. Now this fragmentary modernist masterpiece appears in a major new edition that unites Margaret Jull Costa's celebrated translation with the most complete version of the text ever produced. Written over the course of Fernando Pessoa's life, it was first published in 1982, pieced together from the thousands of individual manuscript pages left behind by Pessoa after his death in 1935. The Book of Disquiet is one of the great literary works of the twentieth century. Click ‘Customise Cookies’ to decline these cookies, make more detailed choices, or learn more.
